Quote 27 Nov 106 notes
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.

Dr Bhagavan Antle of The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S), photographs 4 varieties of Bengal tigers

Dear The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species,

Fuck you.

You are terrible.

You are inhumane shit bags.

Organizations like you that work so hard to justify the debilitating inbreeding of tigers to reproduce the rare color genes under the guise of “conservation.” You are liars, and the truth will spread.

This is Kenny. Kenny doesn’t have down’s syndrome like the internet has told you. Kenny is severely deformed due to inbreeding. We’re told this is necessary to “conserve” his species.

Kenny is not a special, extra endangered rare species anymore than any other black and orange striped tiger. He is a normal fucking tiger with a rare genetic mutation that is easier to reproduce by inbreeding. After so many generations of inbreeding, you get poor Kenny.

White tigers endure a host of health problems about which the public is largely unaware, including immune system deficiencies that cause many to live miserable and short lives, scoliosis of the spine, hip dysplasia, neurological disorders, cleft palates, and protruding, bulging eyes. Many are stillborn and many more turn out to be too deformed to display. Among the ones that look pretty, according to some tiger trainers, only one in 30 will consistently perform.

so FUCK YOU The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species, You are not doing a public service. You are trying to play god and trying to sweep your miserable failure under the rug by brandishing wildly at pretty pictures of white tigers that—omg—one day might perform in fucking Vegas. What a fucking honor for a tiger, huh? I’m sure the ones who are stuck living the rest of their short, agonizing lives in a cage really aspire to some day work with Sigfried and Roy.

Tumblr needs to know about this sort of bullshit because I so often see white tigers on my dash, and I really think that if more people knew the truth behind rare colored tiger “conservation” less people would be enamored by them, and therefore a market for them would start to taper off.

Read more at White Tigers: Conserving a lie.

And again:

Fuck you The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species.

Even your name is a great big goddamn lie.

rebagle because it’s needed.

It warms my heart when I see someone else who has a grasp on how deplorable this “organization” is. C:

Link 25 Nov 8,815 notes Katy Perry's racist performance of "Unconditionally" at the American Music Awards»

  • Katy Perry might as well just have been singing “LONG TIIIIIIIIIME I WILL LOVE YOU LONGGGGG TIMMMEEEEEEEEE” and mixing up her L and R sounds. That is how horrendously racist this performance was.
  • This is absolutely no different than Miley Cyrus’ use of black female bodies in her We Can’t Stop music video and VMAs performance or Lily Allen’s use of black female bodies in her Hard Out Here music video or Selena Gomez’s use of South Asian culture in her Come And Get It music video. All of these videos and performances co-opt aspects of different cultures, cartoonize them, and then marginalize people from those cultures.
  • I really honestly hope to see every single white feminist who vocally criticized Cyrus and Allen and Gomez out in full force against Katy Perry’s racist AMAs performance as well. Walk the talk.
  • It is not a coincidence that the messages of Gomez’s Come And Get It and Perry’s Unconditionally are being used in conjunction with Orientalist imagery from Asian cultures. The literal messages from these songs “when you’re ready come and get it” and “I will love you unconditionally” are ripe for being used to feed the racist western stereotype that all Asian women are constantly sexually available and willingly subservient to men.
  • When Perry bows and puts her hands together and cocks her head a little singing “I will love you unconditionally” at the end bit is just the subservient sexual availability of Asian women as it is understood in the west translated into pop choreography. That is what that is.
  • This song is not an homage to Japanese culture. It is simply an orientalist portrayal of the Greatest Hits of Japanese Culture As (Mis)Understood in the West: there are geisha in vaguely kimono-looking-garments, paper parasols, imagery from the Great Wave off Kanagawa, and a torii. Nothing about it is truly authentic or respectful.
  • This performance was a trainwreck and Katy Perry is a giant racist.

Can we shut up about Taylor Swift and address the real problem bitches in music?

This is exactly the same as wearing a $39.99 “Dragon Geisha Girl” costume for Halloween.

If Perry were properly dressed in an actual kimono (like Reese Witherspoon seen here — instead Perry is wearing a hyrbid of a Chinese cheongsam and a Japanese furisode) and had appropriately attired back-up dancers doing odori, that would be one thing.

But of course actual traditional Japanese garments aren’t *~sexy~* and sex appeal is 75% of Katy Perry’s schtick so no nice things for anyone.

At least she didn’t wear high heels I guess.
